What is Data Science?

Simply put Data Science is the study of Data.  It involves developing methods of recording, storing, and analyzing data to effectively extract useful information. The goal of data science is to gain insights and knowledge from any type of data.

Why is it important?

“90% of the world’s data has been generated in the last 5 years.“

  • More than 300 million photos get uploaded per day.
  • Every minute there are 510,000 comments posted and 293,000 statuses updated.
  • Every person, organization and country produce and stores data. But with all this data nobody knows how to make sense of it. This is where Data Scientists come in, they are the heroes who organize, manipulate and extract insights from the data.

“The course is helpful for beginners. The duration of the course is 3 months + 1-month internship projects along with weekly assignments. The course outline is well structured divided into four modules:

  1. Python Fundamentals: From printing ‘hello world’ to making dictionaries; everything is covered in this module. The concepts learned in this module are helpful for writing and understanding complex machine learning algorithms.
  2. Statistics: I believe it is the most important module of this course. It helps to develop the storytelling skills from your analysis.
  3. Machine Learning: In ML module, a basic overview of algorithms such as Regression, Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, and Random Forest are provided with real-world examples.
